Toyota has planned an entry for its luxury brand, Lexus, officially through the launch of two potential models in the Indian market. The Lexus RX and Lexus ES would be the first 2 cars to enter the country through a CKD route.
The Lexus brand could have been brought in India earlier also but the year 2016 would witness the launch of these products only. The cars would be brought directly from Japan as CKD kits and the company is said to invest 300 crores for the assembly section of both the cars.
The RX is an SUV, available in 3 trims - RX 350, RX 450h and RX 200t. The RX 200t is a 2.0 L turbocharged model with 235 HP and 350 NM of torque. It uses a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The RX 350 uses a bigger 3.5L V6 engine with 296 BHP and 370 NM of torque. The gearbox in this case is a 8-speed auto unit. The RX 450h is the most probable model for India as it carries a 3.5 L diesel engine with electric motors for 308 HP.
The ES on the other side is an elegant sedan rivaling the likes of German luxury cars. It comes with a 3.5 L V6 petrol engine, good for 274 HP and 346 NM of torque. it comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The other 2.5L petrol motor with hybrid technology produces a total of 202 HP.
