In 2019 standards, how safe is an old Volvo?

Hello everyone,

For instance, a 2001 V70 XC was considered a very safe car for the time, and Volvo has always been ahead of a lot of car companies when it comes to safety. In today’s standards though, how does it fair? Obviously it’s not going to have a lot of the features that are common now- backup camera, blind spot detection etc (not that much if this can’t be added aftermarket). I’m thinking more from a mechanical perspective, like if you were to take a brand new Jetta or something, remove all the modern safety gadgets, how would that compare to a 20 year old “safe” car?

Thank you!
