Honda Files Patent for 11-Speed Triple Clutch Transmission

Every car maker is trying its best to test the limits of the modern day transmission, currently offering 9-speed in mass market cars while GM also has a 10-speed automatic for its top end Chevrolet Camaro. Honda on the other side stays small with its most used 6-speed transmissions worldwide.

The same Honda has filed a patent for a 11-speed, triple clutch transmission in Japan. Honda plans to get rid of the torque removal from dual clutch transmissions, thereby using a third clutch in the place. Honda Motor’s Izumi Masao from Japan is said to be originator of this idea.

The step can only be just a way to protect the idea while bringing this 11-speed transmission to a small, eco-friendly car may not be a plan on the Honda’s list.
