Volvo Cars India have fianlly made the impedent but important descision which looked very obvious for a while now. They will now begin to get local assembly line in the country, Instead of being an importer of fully built cars. The step is the part of the strategy laid out by Volvo Group India. Volvo has already been ventured into busses and trucks in the country and is now ready to set up their division for cars. Hakan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars exclaimed his joy in his own words "I am pleased that as of this year we will be able to start selling Volvos that are Made in India," and further added "Starting vehicle assembly in India is an important step for Volvo Cars as we aim to grow our sales in this fast-growing market and double our market share in the premium segment in coming years."
The plant will be set-up at Hoskote location, which is outside of Bangalore. The plant will initially produce Volvo XC90 SUV as the starting plan. The Managing Director of Volvo India, also exclaimed this step to be a sign of company's strong commitment in the country. The localization of it's production will allow Volvo to introduce more flexible pricing system in the country, therefore also giving it a chance to play in bigger volumes in the Indian market.
