Earlier various states such as Haryana, Rajasthan , Gujarat, West Bengal and Karnattaka have successfully implemented and now it is coming to Punjab. The new developement is an effort by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh under the name "Apni Gaddi Apna Rozgaar". The scheme will also enable last mile connectivity and meet the problem of accessibility to areas which are not covered by 4 wheeler taxis.
The policy which is yet to be finalized will allow new and existing users to register. Also as per reports some reputable companies in the business such as Ola and Uber have also shown their interest to invest in it. The scheme is seen as a good step to encourage the youth for their entrepreneural ventures. This move has also been seen by the government as an effective way to reduce overall traffic and keep a check on pollution. The scheme "Apni Gaddi Apna Rozgar" under the Congress government manifesto will provide one lakhs taxis and commercial LCVs. The government will provide 5 year loan, without collateral security with government guarantee at subsidised rates.
