Mahindra wishes to go one step above the present flagship XUV500 and bring the XUV700 (codename Y400). The car would be a badge engineered Ssangyong Rexton and would rival Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in India. The next gen Rexton was showcased in a concept version at 2016 Paris Motor Show. It was named LIV-2 (Limitless Interface Vehicle).
The car would measure close to both the rivals while another report suggest that it would be 4-5 lakhs cheaper than the other two. It would be christened as a full sized premium SUV with 3 rows and seating for 7 passengers. The concept measures 4.85 meters in length, 1.96 meters wide and 1.8 meters in height. It has a wheelbase of 2865 mm, making it 120 mm longer than the Fortuner's wheelbase.
The concept uses 2.2 liter diesel motor with 181 PS and 420 Nm of torque. The engine is euro 6 compliant and uses a Mercedes-Benz sourced 7-speed automatic gearbox. The interior is futuristic and claims the use of premium materials on dashboard, seats and door panels. The butch looking SUV will be yet another approach of Mahindra in acquiring the segment where its presence has been absent from last so many years.
