The all time champion of Indian compact cars, the Maruti 800 has lost its thrown to its very near and dear cousin, the Maruti Suzuki Alto. Started in the year 2000, Alto has became the fastest and the most selling Indian car of all time, selling above 29,00,000 units by the end of October 2015.
The former champion sold around 28 Lakh units in a time span of around 30 years before discontinuation in 2014. Alto has always been sold with the Maruti 800 from its first day of launch. The currently selling models of the Alto includes Alto 800 and Alto K10.
Alto 800 comes with a 796 cc petrol motor producing 47.5 Bhp @ 6000 rpm and 69 Nm @ 3500 rpm. The car uses a 5-speed gearbox and comes with a starting price of INR 2,43,162.
Alto K10 comes with a 998 cc petrol engine producing 67.1 Bhp @ 6000 rpm and 90 Nm @ 3500 rpm. The same comes with 5-speed manual gearbox as well as an AMT unit. It starts with a price tag of INR 3,05,482.
